US Business Index is a public directory of 5,106 US companies, organized by state and industry and built only from public sources.

Where the data comes from

• SEC EDGAR — U.S. government filings, public domain. The source for CIK, ticker, official names, and dated financials for the 1366 public companies here.
• Wikidata — CC0. Identifiers, industry, headquarters, founding dates, ownership, and key people.
• Wikipedia facts — names, locations, and founding facts. Facts are free to use; we never copy Wikipedia prose. All descriptions here are original.
• Official company sites — used to confirm website and status only.

How we handle accuracy

• No fabrication. If a fact does not resolve from a source, we leave it blank rather than guess.
• Dated figures. Volatile figures like revenue and headcount carry the date and source they came from, or they are omitted.
• Status caution. We mark a company active only with dated evidence. Uncertain cases are held for review, not guessed.
• Not investment advice. Financial figures are factual reference only.

The data firewall

This public directory is built only from public-domain and free sources. We never ingest or republish licensed firmographic data from paid providers. That keeps the dataset clean, auditable, and yours to query. See the attribution and data API.

Corrections

Company data changes. If an entry is out of date or wrong, the linked sources are the authority. This is a reference index, not an endorsement of any company.
